Margaret, Alabama

The Town of Margaret began as a small coal mining camp. It was named after the wife of the president of Alabama Fuel & Iron Company, Charles F. DeBardeleben. It was incorporated in 1959 and the first elections were held in February, 1960. F.B. Carroll was elected the first mayor.

Today Margaret, like much of St Clair County is a growing community with a population of 1200. It is seeking to meet the needs of its citizens by providing the most up-to-date services.

Margaret is a relaxed and peaceful town without the hustle and bustle of the large cities. Its residents are friendly and helpful which provides for an excellent atmosphere to live and raise a family.

City Council meetings are held the first and third Tuesdays each month at 7:00 p.m. in the Town Hall. The public is invited to attend.
