John C. Harris was the first pastor of what is now Moody Baptist Church. He is mentioned by Vera Wadsworth in a Brief History of Moody. It reads as follows,

The first church to be organized at Moody was the Rock Springs Baptist church. It was organized in 1882 and it was located at Rock Springs, about a mile west of the site of the present Baptist church. John Harris was the first pastor. There were approximately fifty members.

According to the Bethel Baptist’s minutes, John Harris and his wife Rebecky became members of The Baptist Church of Christ at Bethel in March, 1891. On September 25, 1904 Rev. J.C. Harris was voted in as pastor. He served for one year.

John C. Harris is buried at Sulpher Springs Baptist Church.

A special thanks to Joe Whitten for providing much of the information.
